Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. There are two types of dentures: complete and partial. When all the teeth are missing, complete dentures are used, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. Dentures are developed over several appointments to ensure their level of effectiveness and comfort. Once your dentist determines the type of appliance that is best for you, the general steps are to:

  • Make a series of impressions of your jaw

  • Create models in the exact shape of the dentures which are to be made, which can then be tried on by the patient.

  • Cast a final denture

  • Make any necessary adjustments

Partials

Partial dentures are a great options for those who are missing several teeth but do not require a complete set. Removable partial dentures or bridges typically consist of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base, which is sometimes connected by a metal framework that holds the denture in place. An upper or lower jaw with one or more natural teeth remains can be fitted with partial dentures. By attaching artificial teeth to the teeth on either side of the space, a fixed bridge replaces one or more teeth. Once this "bridge" is in place, it is cemented. In addition to filling in the gaps left by missing teeth, partial dentures prevent other teeth from shifting. Partials can not only keep your mouth safe and healthy, they can restore your beautiful smile, so contact Bassiri & Associates today!
