Fillings

When your dentist treats a cavity, he or she will remove the decayed material from the tooth and fill the area where the decayed material was removed. Dental fillings are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth as well as teeth that have been worn down due to misuse (such as from nail-biting or tooth grinding). Several materials are available today for dental fillings. You can fill teeth with gold, porcelain, silver amalgam (which is mercury mixed with silver, tin, zinc, and copper), plastic, or composite resin fillings, to name just a few examples. Determining what type of filling is best for you depends on the location and extent of the decay, the cost of the filling material, your insurance coverage, and your dentist's recommendation.

Whitening

Want a brighter smile? When it comes to tooth-whitening, you've got two options: in-office-based teeth bleaching, or at-home care. Teeth whitening done by your dentist can get teeth brighter faster. The bleaching solution is usually much stronger than at-home kits, while still remaining perfectly safe to apply. Also, heat, light, or a combination of the two may be used to speed and intensify the whitening process. Whitening is a great solution for most patients, but for some with poor oral health it may not be enough to reverse the coloring of their teeth. Contact us today to see if teeth whitening is right for you.

Crowns and Bridges

Dentures and crowns are very common procedures performed in dental offices. Their general purpose is to restore chewing function to a tooth or teeth.

Crowns, or caps, are dental restorations that replace the outer layer of enamel of a tooth with new material. They are contoured and sized similar to a natural tooth, and they come into contact with the opposite tooth in a normal way, allowing food to be chewed efficiently. When it comes to function, a crown should feel like a regular tooth. A crown can also look perfectly natural, depending on the material used.

The bridge is a fixed partial denture: it is fixed (glued) to the teeth, it replaces some of the teeth, and it uses a fake tooth or teeth (denture) in the place of missing teeth. When there are functioning teeth on both sides of a missing tooth, a bridge can be used to replace one or more missing teeth.
